Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
