Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players around the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
