Omaha Hi-Lo: General Summary
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha Hi-Lo starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of entrants often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
While it seems difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing assortment of betting possibilities and because you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, along with several battling for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
